<aside> Product options, like size and color variants, are essential for tracking and managing stock in your POS system.

By adding these options, you can accurately monitor inventory levels and ensure that the supply price is correctly reflected in your records. This enables more precise stock management and sales tracking, ensuring that each variant is accounted for in your inventory system.

What is a Product Option?

A product option is a specific version of the product, like size, color, or flavour (e.g., Small, Red). Each option can have its own barcode, which overrides the product’s main barcode, and its own supply price.

This makes it easy to scan and sell the exact variation and track stock accurately per option.

Should I use product options or separate products for items like chalk or tape with different sizes or colours?

It depends on whether the variations affect the price:

Type What it links to What happens when scanned
Product Barcode General product Brings up the base product – you choose size/color
Product Option Barcode Specific variant (e.g. S, Blue) Adds that exact variant to the sale instantly

Using product option/variant-specific barcodes is especially helpful for fast scanning and inventory accuracy when you have multiple versions of the same item.
